Your wedding guide
As your wedding day approaches, I wanted to share a few thoughtful notes to help everything unfold as smoothly and beautifully as possible. These are simple preparations that allow the day to feel calm, intentional, and unhurried and help me capture it in the most honest, elegant way.
Hello you two!
Have your details ready and in one place
Please gather any important details you’d like photographed before I arrive. This might include:
– Shoes
– Dress / suit
– Rings
– Jewellery
– Perfume / aftershave
– Invitations / stationery
– Vows
– Any sentimental items
Having these ready allows the morning to begin gently and without interruption.
Your space
Natural light and uncluttered spaces photograph beautifully. If possible, clear surfaces of bags, food packaging, and spare clothing in the room where you’re getting ready. A simple, tidy space helps keep images timeless and refined.
Time is your greatest luxury
Hair and makeup often take slightly longer than expected. Allowing extra time in the schedule ensures the morning feels calm rather than rushed and that feeling carries through the entire day.
The morning of your wedding
Please eat something nourishing and drink water throughout the morning. Even light snacks make a difference, especially once emotions and adrenaline kick in.
Take care of yourselves
Walk slowly. Take a breath. Let moments linger.
When you reach the aisle, when you exchange vows, when you share your first kiss, allow yourself to pause. These are the moments you’ll remember most, and the ones that photograph beautifully when they’re unhurried.
During the ceremony
Family photos, they don’t need to be chaotic
To keep family photographs relaxed and efficient, please prepare a short written list of:
– The groupings you’d like photographed
– Names of family members
– Any sensitive family dynamics I should be aware of
This ensures everyone important is included, without unnecessary stress or delays
Couple Portraits - A Few Thoughtful Notes
You don’t need to worry about posing or what to do, I’ll guide you gently throughout. All I ask is that you stay present with one another. Connection always translates more powerfully than perfection.
Think of this as time together
Portrait time isn’t about posing for the camera, it’s a pause in the day just for the two of you. A chance to breathe, connect, and be present with one another away from the noise.
Slow the pace
Move slowly. Walk a little closer. Let moments linger. Slowness translates into elegance and allows your connection to come through naturally.
Stay physically close
The most timeless images come from closeness, hands intertwined, foreheads touching, a gentle lean. Don’t be afraid to settle into each other.
Quiet over performance
You don’t need to smile or interact constantly. Soft expressions, stillness, and subtle movement often feel more editorial and emotionally rich than big gestures.
Trust gentle direction
I’ll guide you throughout with light direction and prompts. There’s no need to worry about what you should be doing, simply respond to one another and stay present.
Forget the camera
Once we begin, try to focus on each other rather than the lens. The camera fades away quickly, and what remains is genuine connection.
Wind, movement & imperfection
A little movement - walking, turning, letting fabric catch the air brings images to life. Not everything needs to be perfectly controlled; small imperfections often make photographs feel more real and beautiful.
This time is built into the day for you
Portrait time is intentionally woven into your timeline with space to breathe. There’s no need to rush, this is your moment together.
Not everything needs to go exactly to plan to be meaningful. If something small unfolds differently than expected, let it. What matters is the feeling of the day, the people you’re surrounded by, and the fact that you’re choosing each other.
If you have any questions, concerns, or special considerations you’d like to share ahead of time, I’m always here.
I cannot wait to document this chapter for you.
